Balsam bashing

The Lune Rivers Trust is looking for volunteers to help with organised balsam bashes!

The aim of the BIG BALSAM BASH is to get rid of the invasive Himalyan Balsam and protect our rivers.

For more information including the dates in July, please contact Louisa on 07814 694129 or email louisa@luneriverstrust.org.uk.  A poster giving details is in the Games Room.

Please tear up Himalayan Balsam if you see it when out walking, and stamp on it… the Balsam Bash!

The Butterfly Conservation recorder for North Lancashire has however made a plea that as far as is practically possible where the two grow together, you do not bash the accompanying Butterbur as Butterburthere are some quite scarce insects associated with this plant – e.g. the imaginatively named “Butterbur moth”.

The leaf of the Butterbur is distinctively different from the Balsam.
