Last summer ospreys successfully bred at Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve near Witherslack; a first for the site! As ospreys are generally site-faithful, the adults should, with luck, return to breed again this April.
In their latest newsletter, Cumbria Wildlife Trust says: ‘With our eyes to the sky we anticipate their arrival from West Africa and want to have even better protection for them whilst they stay at Foulshaw Moss Nature Reserve.”
Protection of nesting ospreys from illegal human interference is a priority. We need better quality cameras in order to provide the birds of prey with 24 hour protection which at the same time would give you up close and personal footage of them at the nesting site!’
